A poem about addiction - I know why you drink that first pint!

I know why you drink that first pint,

trying to numb some of the pain.

I know why you drink the second, third and fourth pints,

starting to feel normal again.

I know why you drink the fifth and sixth pints,

wishing that you stuck to just four.

I know why you drink that seventh and eighth pint,

hoping it would all go away.

I know why you drink the ninth and tenth pints,

not wanting to face the new day.

I know why you drank all the pints,

I have been in the same place myself.

I know the hurt first-hand,

not knowing where to look for help.

But life does not have to be this way,

some of us can’t stop at just four.

But we all can be different,

we just need to want more.

One less each time,

it will soon be no more.

This path is not easy,

but it is worth taking.

Let us be honest,

it’s the new you that your making!

The sun rising over the mountains with the caption every new day starts with a new sunrise

I am not 100% sure why I decided to write this, but recently I have written posts about pushing myself out of my comfort zone and getting creative in sobriety, so here it is my first attempt at sober poetry, please be kind and I hope you enjoy it.
