Why I started this.
I started It’s That Sober Guy after my first few years of sobriety, my reason for starting was while parts of my sobriety have been amazing, parts have also been tough. At times I have felt very isolated in my sobriety and have not known where to turn.
I decided to start It’s That Sober Guy to try to pass some of my learning on, to create a small community of people online who could be accountable to each other and to learn more about setting up and designing a website. I have never wanted to make loads of money out of this but did want the website to be able to be self-funding.
I feel that all aspects of well-being are interlinked, for this reason, the website is about all things well-being, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and sobriety. I am not an expert on any of these topics, but I do have personal experience with them all and I wanted to share what I have learnt, while also learning from others.

What has happened so far?
Creating the website was fun, I am so proud of the final version, and I have learnt so much doing it. However, somewhere along the way I started to get lost. It quickly became about raising my profile on social media, making sure I am posting regularly and writing blogs to a schedule. Quickly it has become more like a job and one I am not earning much money for.
Artificial intelligence (AI)
I am sure by the fact you are reading this on the internet, you are aware of the recent rise of AI use for lots of tasks. While these are great and can complete tasks very quickly, they also have their drawbacks.
I am already keen on embracing all aspects of technology in my life, and it was a tool, that could write more professional blogs than me and faster. I am not going to lie, I have used AI to write 2 of my blogs, I did not feel comfortable with them but still published them.

The reality check.
Sometimes there is only one person that can tell you off properly is your mum and that is exactly what happened, I got a phone call from my mum saying that she knew that the latest blog was not written by me, and while it was all factually correct, it was rubbish as it was not me. This was the reality check I needed. Unfortunately, as one of my only paying members, I owed it to her and anyone else that reads my blogs to keep my authenticity, warts, and all.

Going forward
So, moving forward I won’t be using AI to write any of my blogs anymore. The 2 that AI did help me with, I am going to keep on the website as they are part of my journey. I can’t promise I will never use AI again, but any blog posts will be written by me!
I started It’s That Sober Guy as I believe in the power of human-to-human connection, even over the Internet, somehow, I got distracted by technology and forgot my purpose for doing this. For this I am sorry, but we are human, and I continue to learn every day.
Going forward, you may have to put up with a few spelling mistakes, my endless rambling, and a slightly haphazard publishing schedule, however, all posts will come from my heart by me, unless I get a guest writer one week, which will be clearly explained. You never know mum if you are still reading my blogs, this could be you!
I hope you have all enjoyed reading this short blog and if there is anything you would like me to talk about specifically, feel free to email me at info@itsthatsoberguy.com
Happy Sobriety all.
